The Gildersleeve Gold Mine and Camp is the most preserved, family-run subsistence mining operation in Montana. In 2002, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The camp buildings were erected in the 1930s on a man-made terrace created from old hydraulic mining tailings. The Gildersleeve family worked the hydraulic and hard rock gold mine, making just enough money to pay expenses. In 1994, their mining claim expired and was not renewed. The Gildersleeve Mine is located on historic Cedar Creek. Many interpretive signs along the way are worth stopping and reading. This area is maintained by the Mineral County Museum and Historical Society https://mineralmthistory.org Please contact the museum for entry since the Gildersleeve Mine is on private land.
