Red Hill was established by 1880. August of that year a fire started making 1000 lbs of powder explode. 1 man was killed and four other injured and all five building were destroyed. Red Hill Depot was rebuilt for the CSP&P. Red Hill was also the transfer point for freight and passengers to Fairplay, Breckenridge, and Leadville until they got their own rails.
