"Colonel" A.J. Pickerell built a 10 stamp mill here in 1897 and a camp of about 100 people developed supporting two saloons and a store. A nearby peak was named after a famous southerner, Davis Peak, and in retaliation, miners from northern states named the higher nearby peak Union. |
